Mobile phone dealers under the Association of Mobile Phones and Allied Products Traders of Nigeria have rejected proposed registration fees for newly imported mobile devices under the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Device Management System (DMS).
The association made its position known in Abuja on Thursday, warning that the proposed charges could increase the cost of mobile phones for consumers.
According to the dealers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers may eventually pass the additional financial burden down to customers, leading to higher prices in the already challenging mobile phone market.
The association called for further engagement with relevant authorities to ensure that the implementation of the device registration system does not impose additional costs on businesses and consumers.
