BREAKING: Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Dies After Cancer Battle

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer. His death was announced on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an Instagram Live session.

The development comes just days after the actor’s family publicly disclosed his health condition and appealed for medical assistance as his condition deteriorated. Earlier reports indicated that the family was seeking specialised treatment for the veteran actor.

Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood, with a career spanning several decades as an actor, filmmaker, producer and director. He was widely recognised for his memorable performances and contribution to the growth of the Nigerian film industry.

Before his death, several individuals, colleagues and well-wishers reportedly rallied around the actor and his family. Among those reported to have supported his medical treatment was Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State.

The actor's death has sparked an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fans and admirers across Nigeria, particularly within the Yoruba film industry.

Ogogo's passing comes only days after a previous death report concerning him was dismissed by his daughter as false.

May his soul rest in peace.
