The Oyo State Chapter of the National League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) has inaugurated its newly constituted executive members, with a renewed commitment to strengthening women’s participation in politics and promoting their economic empowerment across the state.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the UMC Demonstration Basic School Hall, Molete, Ibadan, and brought together members and women leaders from different parts of Oyo State, representing the 33 local government areas.
Speaking with our correspondent at the event, the newly inaugurated Chairperson of NILOWV, Oyo State Chapter, Hon. Mrs. Adeniran M.A., said women had for many years been sidelined in political activities, stressing the need for greater inclusion and participation.
She explained that NILOWV is not a political party, but an organisation established to support and encourage women who are interested in politics, irrespective of their political affiliations.
According to her, the organisation is committed to creating opportunities for women to become more actively involved in political processes while also supporting their economic growth.
“Women have been sidelined in politics for too long, and that is why we need to get involved going forward. NILOWV is not a political party. We support women who are interested in politics, regardless of the political party they belong to,” she said.
She added that the organisation would focus on political awareness, leadership development and economic empowerment, with the aim of ensuring that more women participate meaningfully in governance and decision-making across Oyo State.
