The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Dr. Gbemileke Alagbe, popularly known as Eleniyan, alongside the party's candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibadan North-East Constituency 2, Hon. Princess Oluwaseun Dosunmu, has visited traders affected by a recent fire incident at the Oranyan area of Ibadan.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, was aimed at sympathising with the affected traders, assessing the extent of damage and offering support following the devastating incident that destroyed shops and valuable goods.
Alagbe and Dosunmu were accompanied by the ADC Chairman for Ibadan South-West, Comr. Idris Adeshola, among other party members and stakeholders.
During the visit, the delegation interacted with affected traders and inspected the damaged shops as the victims recounted the circumstances surrounding the incident and the extent of their losses.
One of the affected traders, Mr. Aderemi Ayuba , alleged that the fire was deliberately started after suspected thieves reportedly broke into some of the shops and stole valuables.
Ayuba claimed that items including plasma televisions, generators, home theatre speakers, gold, clothes, wardrobes, furniture and other valuable goods were allegedly stolen before the shops were set ablaze.
He said the incident had left many traders devastated, with some losing their businesses and major sources of livelihood.
Alagbe Promises Support
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Gbemileke Alagbe (Eleniyan) expressed sympathy with the affected traders and acknowledged the severity of the losses suffered by the victims.
He assured them that the ADC would support their efforts to rebuild and return to business.
Alagbe specifically promised to provide planks and roofing materials to assist the affected traders in reconstructing their damaged shops.
He also prayed for the victims, asking God to give them the strength to overcome the setback and restore everything they had lost.
Market Leaders Appeal for Assistance
The Iyaloja and Babaloja of the market also appealed for assistance on behalf of the affected traders.
They explained that many of the victims had lost their means of livelihood and called on the ADC, government and other well-meaning individuals and organisations to support them in rebuilding their businesses.
The market leaders urged stakeholders to provide whatever assistance they could to help the affected traders recover from the disaster.
Princess Dosunmu Sympathises With Victims
Also speaking through her actions during the visit, Hon. Princess Oluwaseun Dosunmu, ADC candidate for Oyo State House of Assembly, Ibadan North-East Constituency 2, expressed deep sympathy with the affected traders.
Dosunmu walked through the affected area, interacted with some of the victims and inspected the extent of damage caused by the fire.
She prayed for the affected traders, asking God to restore their lost properties and give them the strength and resources to rebuild their businesses.
The visit ended with renewed calls for support for the affected traders as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their shops and restoring their livelihoods.
The ADC delegation said it remained concerned about the welfare of residents and business owners affected by the incident.
