Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hinted at plans to form what he described as the “largest rainbow coalition” in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the disclosure while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Friday, following a visit by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to his residence on Thursday.
The FCT Minister claimed that Adeleke had now aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and suggested that opposition parties would struggle to mount an effective challenge to President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike described the forthcoming election as a potential “walkover” for the President, insisting that the opposition would have little capacity to stop Tinubu’s re-election if current political developments continue.
“In the next few weeks, watch what is going to happen. You will see the largest rainbow coalition supporting President Tinubu,” Wike said.
His comment comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups across party lines exploring possible alliances and new platforms.
Adeleke, who was recently re-elected as governor of Osun State after a keenly contested election, has also publicly expressed support for President Tinubu.
The governor and his nephew, Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, visited Wike in Abuja on Thursday shortly after Adeleke collected his Certificate of Return.
The development has further fuelled speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly concerning the relationship between members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC and emerging opposition coalitions.
Wike's reference to a “rainbow coalition” suggests a broad alliance involving politicians and political interests from different parties and ideological backgrounds in support of the President's 2027 ambition.
