Sunday Igboho Offers Security Support to Oyo Schools, Writes Makinde Over Rising Insecurity

Yoruba Nation agitator and security advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has offered to deploy personnel of his private security outfit to public schools across Oyo State in a bid to strengthen security and prevent future attacks on students and teachers.

The proposal was contained in a letter dated June 9, 2026, addressed to the Oyo State Commissioner for Education and copied to Governor Seyi Makinde.

The initiative comes in the wake of growing concerns over the safety of schools following the abduction of scores of pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on educational institutions in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

In the correspondence obtained in Ibadan, Igboho, through his security outfit, Iru Ekun Private Security Limited, requested detailed information on the locations and number of public schools across Oyo State to enable the organisation to implement its proposed security plan.

According to the letter jointly signed by Sunday Igboho and the Legal Adviser of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Junaid Sanusi, the outfit is prepared to collaborate with the state government and relevant stakeholders to provide additional protection for schools.

The proposal includes the deployment of at least two trained security personnel to every public school identified across the state.

The letter stated that the officers would be responsible for guarding school premises, monitoring access points, maintaining close communication with school administrators and community vigilante groups, and preventing unauthorized entry by criminal elements.

"Sir, Iru Ekun Security Network's plan, upon receipt of the requested information, is to ensure that at least two trained members of the outfit are stationed at each public school identified across Oyo State. Their mandate will be to guard school environments, monitor access points, liaise with principals and community vigilantes, and prevent unlawful incursion by criminal elements," the letter read in part.

The organisation also advised the Oyo State Government to consider constructing perimeter fences around public schools to enhance security and make surveillance more effective.

According to the group, fencing school environments would assist security personnel in monitoring movement and preventing external threats from gaining easy access to school premises.

While acknowledging the efforts already being made by the Oyo State Government and security agencies to rescue victims of recent kidnappings, the security outfit stressed the importance of taking proactive steps to avoid future occurrences.

The letter emphasized that the safety of students and teachers must remain a top priority and warned that delays in implementing preventive measures could expose schools to further risks.

"Time is of the essence. Every day without preventive deployment exposes our children and teachers to avoidable risk. With proper data and perimeter security, we can create a protective shield around every public school in Oyo State," the organisation stated.

Iru Ekun Security Network further reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), school management boards, community leaders, and other stakeholders to restore confidence in public education.

The security proposal follows the shocking abduction of students and teachers on May 15, 2026, during attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, all located in Oriire Local Government Area.

The incident sparked outrage across Oyo State and renewed calls for stronger security measures to safeguard schools and protect children from criminal activities.

As concerns over insecurity continue to mount, many residents and stakeholders are expected to closely watch the government's response to Sunday Igboho's latest security initiative.
