The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oluyole Local Government, Comr. Oluwaseun Adekunle Samson, has extended warm felicitations to the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, on the occasion of his 82nd birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation as the paramount ruler of Ibadanland.
Comr. Samson described the twin occasions as significant milestones for the people of Ibadanland, noting that the monarch’s birthday and the first anniversary of his ascension to the revered Olubadan throne provide an opportunity to celebrate his contributions to the development, unity and progress of Ibadan and Oyo State.
Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja was born on September 25, 1944, in Gambari, Ibadan. Before ascending the traditional throne, he distinguished himself in various fields of public service and national affairs as a chemical engineer, businessman, former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and former Governor of Oyo State.
He was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on September 26, 2025, at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
According to Comr. Samson, the Olubadan stool represents much more than a traditional institution, describing it as an enduring symbol of Ibadan’s rich history, cultural identity, unity and resilience.
He noted that Oba Ladoja’s extensive experience in public affairs, coupled with his long journey through the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy system, has placed him in a unique position to contribute meaningfully to the continued peace, stability and development of Ibadanland.
«“On behalf of my family, the leadership and entire members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oluyole Local Government, I heartily congratulate His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, on the occasion of his 82nd birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.»
«“Kabiyesi’s life is a testament to dedication, service, perseverance and commitment to the growth of our society. His journey from the professional world to public service and ultimately to the revered throne of the Olubadan is one that carries enormous historical significance.»
«“As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we acknowledge the enormous responsibility that comes with occupying the Olubadan throne, and we pray that Almighty God will continue to grant Kabiyesi wisdom, sound health, strength and many more years to provide guidance and leadership to our people.”»
Comr. Samson further congratulated the Olubadan on completing his first year on the throne, describing the anniversary as an important milestone in the continuing history of the ancient city of Ibadan.
He noted that the coronation of Oba Ladoja on September 26, 2025, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Olubadan institution. The historic ceremony at Mapo Hall attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, public figures and other dignitaries from across Nigeria.
The ADC Oluyole Chairman stressed the importance of preserving Ibadan’s unique traditional institutions, cultural heritage and communal values, particularly among the younger generation.
He called on Ibadan indigenes and residents to continue to respect and support the traditional institution while contributing positively to the development and advancement of the city.
«“Ibadan is blessed with a rich history and a resilient people. The Olubadan institution remains an important part of that identity. As we celebrate Kabiyesi today and tomorrow, we must also renew our commitment to peace, unity, development and the preservation of the values that have sustained Ibadan over generations.”» is
Comr. Samson also acknowledged the Olubadan’s appeal to the people and friends of Ibadan to mark the twin occasions with thanksgiving, prayers and acts of generosity rather than elaborate celebrations.
He noted that the monarch had encouraged well-wishers to use the occasion to remember people facing difficult circumstances, including children in motherless babies’ homes, as part of the commemoration.
The ADC Oluyole Chairman described the monarch’s message as a reflection of the importance of using moments of personal celebration as opportunities to promote service to humanity and extend kindness to the less privileged.
He therefore prayed for continued wisdom and strength for the Olubadan, peace within the traditional institution, and sustainable development across Ibadanland and Oyo State.
«“May Almighty God continue to preserve His Imperial Majesty, bless him with many more fruitful years on the throne, and grant him the wisdom and strength to continue to contribute to the peace, unity and advancement of Ibadanland.»
«“May the reign of Kabiyesi continue to be marked by peace, progress, unity and prosperity, and may the ancient city of Ibadan continue to occupy its rightful place as one of the great centres of culture, commerce, knowledge and development in Nigeria.”»
Comr. Oluwaseun Adekunle Samson finally wished the Olubadan a happy 82nd birthday and a peaceful, impactful and memorable first coronation anniversary, assuring the revered monarch of his respect, goodwill and prayers.
