INEC Extends Continuous Voter Registration by Two Weeks, Launches Online Self-Service Registration Platform

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by an additional two weeks and unveiled a new online self-service registration platform for eligible first-time voters.

The Commission announced the development in a statement issued on Friday, explaining that the registration exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, and was initially scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, will now conclude on Friday, July 24, 2026.

According to INEC, the extension followed a comprehensive review of the exercise as well as feedback received from its state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders across the country.

The electoral body stated that the additional two weeks would provide more eligible Nigerians who are yet to register with the opportunity to be included in the National Register of Voters ahead of future elections.

In a major technological advancement, INEC also announced the introduction of a fully online self-service voter registration platform, which will become operational on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

The platform, accessible through cvr.inecnigeria.org, will enable eligible first-time voters to complete their registration process, including biometric capture, using their personal devices from any location without the need to visit an INEC office.

The Commission explained that the digital platform is equipped with robust identity verification, biometric validation, and backend security checks to safeguard the integrity of the National Register of Voters.

INEC emphasized that the extension demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has a fair and reasonable opportunity to register and participate in the country's democratic process.

The Commission, therefore, urged all eligible but unregistered Nigerians to take advantage of both the extended registration period and the newly introduced online registration platform.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible, inclusive, and accessible voter registration exercise while leveraging technology to improve the electoral experience for all Nigerians.
